California Casualty is a family-owned company whose founding principles have withstood the test of time. In 1914, my grandfather, Carl G. Brown, Sr., based the new company on his own personal reputation for integrity, high ethical standards and devotion to customer service. When my father, Carl G. Brown, Jr., took over as Chairman of the Board in 1957, he continued those traditions and, in 1965, restated my grandfather's and his basic business principles in the California Casualty Code. Effective January 1, 2006, I scaled back my involvement in the daily operations and general management of California Casualty, but remain close to the company as its Chairman. Management of the business has been assumed by my son, Carl B. “Beau” Brown, who now serves as President and CEO.
Beau has been with the company 18 years and has served in many increasingly responsible positions over that time. He represents the fourth generation of Brown family leadership of California Casualty. I am confident that Beau will carry on the traditions and commitments we have embraced since the company's founding. One of California Casualty's enduring strengths has been its ability to maintain these founding traditions while also having the courage to seek innovation. This is never more true than today, even as the company is adopting yet another generation of customer-focused business solutions with the introduction of A+ Auto & Home Insurance (A+ for short), our new personal insurance program for affinity groups and their members. My grandfather's original ideas about how to run a company still work today. People, products and processes may change, but our business practices will always be guided by our family's long-standing beliefs. CORPORATE CITIZENSHIPCalifornia Casualty has nurtured a culture of personal and corporate citizenship since the company’s inception. The company established an annual award given to employees who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to excellence in both business activities as well as community involvement. Volunteering in the communities in which we do business is firmly ingrained in our company heritage. For decades, employees have participated in myriad ways – they support a variety of school programs, paint playground equipment, fill the shelves of food banks and fulfill the wishes of children during the holidays. Our employees are regular participants in Daffodil Days, Heart Walks, Races for the Cure and blood drives. The company continually fosters a culture of participation and volunteerism through a wide variety of programs in 42 states, including:
