High School Sports Programs Can Win with a California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant
San Mateo, CA, September 22, 2015 … Public high schools across the nation can score up to $3,000 for their athletics programs with a 2016 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant. Once again, up to $100,000 dollars will be available to purchase equipment or improve athlete safety. January 15, 2016 is the deadline for 2016 consideration at www.CalCasAthleticsGrant.com.
The grant is named after California Casualty Chairman Emeritus Tom Brown, who believes that lessons taught on the playing field – teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship – help develop students who are successful in the classroom and later in life.
Since its inception four years ago, the Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant program has awarded more than $400,000 to public high schools across the nation. A recent Public School Review article highlighted the numerous sport programs that have been diminished or eliminated across the country due to budget constraints.
Thanks to their 2015 grant, New Jersey's Kittatinny Regional High School's lacrosse team has been able to field more players. The coach says this increases his opportunity to mentor student-athletes on the importance of success and teamwork.
In Colorado, Sterling High School is well on the way to purchasing new equipment for their weight room, which hasn't been updated in decades.
And the funds mean the football team at John C. Kimball High School in California will start the season with the latest concussion preventing helmets.
"We want to help guarantee that student-athletes get a chance to compete and learn," said Doug Goldberg, Senior Vice President.
Applications for the 2015-2016 academic year grants must be received by January 15, 2016. Recipients will be notified in April with presentations made in May. Official rules and applications can be found at www.CalCasAthleticsGrant.com.
