$2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty a Stress Relief for San Jose Educator

San Jose, CA, March 7, 2018 – “This means so much for me and for my students,” said Stacey Burkholder after she received a $2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty. “It’s been a stressful year for our school and this will help bring some fun to my classroom.”

Ms. Burkholder, who teaches a combined 3rd and 4th grade class at Del Roble Elementary School in San Jose, California, said she is thrilled with the resources the money will allow her to bring to her students. “We are learning about California’s Gold Rush, and I’m thinking of bringing in a performance group that re-enacts that period to make it interactive and real for my students,” she said.

After a career in the high-tech industry, Ms. Burkholder became a teacher and has been at Del Roble Elementary for 12 years. “I wanted to make a life change that would make a difference for others,” she said. “It’s rare that we get recognition and it’s nice when people and companies like California Casualty let us know that they care,” she added.

National surveys find educators spend an average of $500 of their own funds each year, with many spending much more, for classroom supplies and materials. The California Casualty Academic Award was created to increase the opportunity for instructors to bring innovative projects and educational opportunities to their schools. This was the 15th Academic Award given since the program began in 2012.

California Casualty will be enhancing the working lives of educators with an upcoming $7,500 School Lounge Makeover this summer. Information and the entry form can be found at www.schoolloungemakeover.com.
