$2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty to Help NJ Students Stay in Shape
San Mateo, CA, April 13, 2016 … Anthony (Tony) Magliaro's dedication to keeping students physically fit and active will be a little easier, thanks to a $2,500 Academic Award from California Casualty. Tony, a physical education and health instructor at Long Branch Middle School in New Jersey, was speechless when he learned about the award during a recent staff meeting.
"I was in shock, I couldn't believe it; the $2,500 will buy much needed physical ed equipment for our kids," he said.
Fighting the growing trend of obesity in youth is a passion of Tony's. The ability to purchase new balls, scooters, and workout apparatus will aid in the effort. He considers the award a present that will benefit students at the middle school for many years to come.
The California Casualty Academic Award was created to relieve the impact on educators who spend an average of $500 of their own funds each year for classroom supplies and materials. This is the 10th Academic Award from California Casualty since the program began in 2012.

Tony, who has worked at the middle school for 14 years, describes himself as the approachable teacher who jokes around and listens to students. He takes pride in helping them when they have a bad day or when something is really bothering them. "There is nothing better than seeing kids mature and be successful in their transition to high school," he said.
Entries for the next California Casualty $2,500 Academic Award are now being taken at www.CalCasAcademicAward.com. The deadline is July 8, 2016, with a winner announced in August.
