California Teacher Wins $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® From California Casualty

San Mateo, California, April 23, 2014… The staff lounge at Gilbert High School in Anaheim, California will soon be transformed by a $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® from California Casualty.

CTA member Brady Michel was randomly picked from more than 25,000 entries as the latest winner of the nationwide contest. The math instructor was informed of his win at a surprise announcement April 18. "I am excited that we won because the staff at my school really deserves a place that is just for them, that can take their minds off their sometimes stressful jobs – even just for a while. Our lounge looked like just another classroom," he said.

Brady has taught for a total of 17 years, 14 in the Anaheim Union High School District. "I appreciate California Casualty for offering this opportunity. This is really giving something lasting to my staff."

Recognizing the lifelong impact of teachers, California Casualty created the School Lounge Makeover® contest in 2010 so education professionals could enjoy an inviting, functional space where they can take a break, recharge, and interact with their colleagues.

So far, instructors from seven schools across the nation have won lounge makeovers in the past three years:

  • Kellie P., Colfax Elementary, Denver, Colorado
  • Linda L., Quartz Hill Elementary, Quartz Hill, California
  • Sue O., Lake Hiawatha Elementary, Hiawatha, New Jersey
  • Richard G., Warner Middle School, Westminster, California
  • Kelly G., Tusky Valley High, Zoarville, Ohio
  • Kendra B., Sunnydale Elementary, Lancaster, California
  • Debbie S., Plainville High, Plainville, Connecticut

Drawings are held twice a year and the more staff members from a school who enter, the better the chance of their school winning.

The entry form and complete rules for the California Casualty $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® can be found at www.SchoolLoungeMakover.com. Deadline to enter for the next round is October 3, 2014, with the winner announced early November.
