Munhall Volunteer Fire Company Receives California Casualty’s $10,000 Firehouse Makeover

Munhall, PA, December 18, 2013 … Santa came a week early for the Munhall Volunteer Fire Company #1, winners of the latest $10,000 Firehouse Makeover contest from California Casualty. The crew was greeted with new sleeping quarters, appliances and a more “homey” feel at the unveiling Dec. 17. Volunteer firefighter Greg Kretz was named the latest winner of the national contest in November from nearly 12,000 entries submitted to California Casualty.

The Munhall Volunteer Fire Company #1 firehouse is over 100 years old.

“It’s like night and day,” said Kretz. “It was dull and dingy, now it’s bright, brand new and shiny. I have to rate it a 10-plus.”

The renovation includes a fresh coat of paint, a comfortable new sleeping area with four new bunk beds and new bedding, new carpeting, a flat screen TV and a new full size washer and dryer. Kretz says the improved living area and appliances will help attract new recruits, extending the department’s ability to protect the community.

Mike McCormick, Vice President of California Casualty says, “Improving firefighters’ lives is part of our commitment of protecting America’s heroes. They give so much to protect their communities and it makes us proud to give back to them.”
