ONA Member Starts the New Year with a $1,000 Surprise from California Casualty

San Mateo, CA, January 25, 2018 – “This is awesome; I feel so valued and appreciated,” exclaimed RN Michelle Thomas after being surprised after her January 24 shift with a $1,000 Nurses Night Out prize from California Casualty.

Saving lives is Michelle’s passion. “It’s awesome when you save the life of someone under your care; it’s great to see them get out of intensive care.”

Michelle, an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse, said that she wished more companies like California Casualty recognized the hard work health care professionals do. ”It’s fantastic that your company understands that,” she said.

“Nurses are the caretakers of America and we appreciate all they do,” said California Casualty Sr. Vice President, Mike McCormick.

California Casualty created the Nurses Night Out contest to thank nurses for the long hours they put in offering comfort and healing to patients and families. RNs and nurse practitioners who are members of the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) can enter for two more Nurses Night Out giveaways in 2018 at www.nursesnight.com. The deadline for the next drawing is April 13, with a winner announced in May.

Michelle, an ONA member, has been employed at St. Charles Bend Medical Center for 13 years. She realized early in her career is that ICU is where she wanted to be. “You meet people all the time who say they hoped you were their ICU nurse and are thankful they made it through their ordeal. That’s due to the exceptional care we provide them.”
