$7,500 School Lounge Makeover Brightens-Up Teachers' Lives
San Mateo, CA, April 29, 2015 … Principal Bonnie Tanaka loves her staff and wanted to leave them something special before she retired in August. Bonnie accomplished the task as the latest winner of California Casualty's $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® contest.
"To have a real break room will make a huge difference to everyone," said Bonnie. "To be able to leave a gift to my incredible staff means so much." She described the staff lounge at Madrid Middle School in El Monte, California as a place few wanted to use.
Madrid Middle School employees are now enjoying their "island themed" lounge. The space has new meeting tables and chairs, comfortable couches, bistro tables and ample seating. Hand-me-down appliances have been replaced by a new refrigerator, microwave, toaster ovens and coffee maker. Bonnie is certain this is the first time the cramped room has been given an update in more than 20 years.
Madrid is the 10th school to receive a makeover from California Casualty. The contest was created in 2011 to brighten and spruce up the room that teachers and staff use to decompress and share meals; often the last area in the school to receive upgrades.
While she was certain she would never be chosen, Bonnie, who has been the principal at Madrid Middle School for the past seven years, said she is thrilled she entered to win.
The deadline to enter for the next California Casualty $7,500 School Lounge Makeover® is October 2, 2015, with a winner announced in November.
